Torrevieja, “Torre Vieja” or “Old Tower”.

The literal translation of Torrevieja is “Torre Vieja”, which means “old tower”. Like many cities on the Costa Blanca, Torrevieja used to be a small fishing village. But today Torrevieja has grown into a bustling seaside town that attracts many tourists every year.

Torrevieja is easily accessible via Alicante International Airport which is located about 40 minutes north of the city or more south the new Murcia-Corvera International Airport. In the vicinity you will also find the popular tourist places such as the other well-known resort of Guardamar del Segura, Cabo Roig, Campoamor and La Zenia.

Be seduced by the magnificent nature.

Torrevieja has many attractive parks, gardens and squares where you can walk for hours or relax in the shade, such as the Paraje Natural Municipal Molino del Agua and the Park of Nations.

The salt lakes of the Laguna Salada de la Mata and the Laguna Salada de Torrevieja – which surround the city of Torrevieja – are very healthy for people with arthritis because of the Mediterranean climate. The salt lakes are a protected area and form a natural habitat for many protected bird species, including the greater flamingo. The salt from the lakes is also commercially extracted, making it one of the most important industries in Torrevieja.

Things to do.

If you are in Torrevieja, you should definitely visit the port area with its numerous restaurants, tapas bars and shops. The fish restaurants are a must because the fish is delivered daily in the restaurants from the local fishing boats. The covered market of Torrevieja offers fresh fish, meat, fruit and vegetables. Friday is market day in Torrevieja.

There are more than 100 bars, most of which are located in the El Baluarte and La Punta district. Every year they attract thousands of visitors and it is the ideal place to sample the vibrant nightlife that this popular resort on the Costa Blanca South has to offer.

For the little ones.

Torrevieja has two water parks, Aquopolis and Aquapark Flamingo, and a large indoor sports center with an Olympic swimming pool. One of the main reasons why families with children come to Torrevieja for their annual holiday destination is of course sun, sea and beach.

In Torrevieja you can choose from more than 20 km of white sandy beaches with a blue flag certificate, which have first-class facilities such as a playground for children, showers, toilets, first aid stations and lifeguards. The main beaches of Torrevieja include Playa de los Naufragos, Playa de Acequion, Paseo de Maritimo Juan Aparicio, Playa del Cura, Playa de los Locos and Playa de la Mata. All worth a visit if you are staying in Torrevieja.
